JEREMY WEISS Baritone

JEREMY WEISS BARITONE is an American-born, Paris-based classical vocal artist and actor praised for his sensitivity, passion, and intelligence in opera, operetta, music theatre, and art song.

This season opens with a house and role debut, as Weiss takes the stage at L’Opéra National de Paris as Harry Easter in their Académie production of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene. 2024 also brings house and role debuts with l’Opéra Théâtre de Metz Métropole as Manuel in Manuel de Falla’s La Vida Breve, and with Les Escales Lyriques as Sharpless in their production of Madama Butterfly on Île d’Yeu. Later this year Weiss will join Pure Art Circle in the Italian Dolomites as an artist-in-residence to collaborate with Nicole Brancato on their new chamber opera, Infinitesimal.

2023 brought a performance at Château Ernest in Tantonville as Lorenze in a rare production of the Zarzuela Doña Francisquita, while 2022 saw Weiss take third prize in the Lotte Lenya Competition during his third appearance as a finalist, having already won awards from the competition in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, Weiss performed the role of Schaunard in La Bohème with Charlottesville Opera. His 2021 performances of Schubert songs in the self-directed conceptual film The Wandering were described by Opera News as “full of a languid, indigo-tinged sensuousness that breaks through dimensions and depths of these songs that few performers ever manage to uncover.” 2019 included a debut on PBS Great Performances in Bernstein's Mass with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop as well as two premieres: the world premiere of Dialogues of the Travelers at National Sawdust and The Creature (The Modern Prometheus) in Redhook’s Studio 153.

A lover of both modern and baroque music, Weiss has been seen in roles as diverse as the title characters of The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs and Belli's Orfeo Dolente, as well as the role of Lifeguard in The Good Swimmer at BAM and Garibaldo in Handel’s Rodelinda. Musical theatre credits include Berke (Di Goldene Kale) with the National Yiddish Theater Off-Broadway, Curly (Oklahoma!), Freddy (My Fair Lady), and Wolf/Prince (Into the Woods). Jeremy is a former Studio Artist with the Aspen Opera Center and holds an MM from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music as well as undergraduate degrees from Yale University in Humanities and Theater Studies.
